About the Two Route Options

Rows of vineyards along the Camino Francés in northern Spain.

Camino Francés (León to Santiago)

The Camino Francés is one of the most well-known routes to Santiago—shaped by history, landscape, and long-held tradition. Beginning in León, this journey carries you through northern Spain across open countryside, historic villages, and quiet rural paths, all leading to Santiago de Compostela.

Along the way, the experience unfolds gradually. Vineyard-covered hills, stone villages, and changing landscapes create a rhythm that invites presence—not just in what you see, but in how you begin to feel as you walk.

What makes the Camino Francés special:

– A deeply rooted Camino experience shaped by tradition
– A strong sense of connection along the path
– Historic towns, architecture, and Spanish culture
– The meaningful arrival into Santiago de Compostela

Walking rhythm:

This retreat includes 17 walking days, averaging about 18 km (11 miles) per day. Terrain includes rolling countryside, village paths, and occasional climbs as we enter Galicia. With luggage transfers included, you’ll walk with only what you need and stay present to the journey.

This Camino is for those seeking a meaningful, supported experience—one that blends tradition with space to reflect and reconnect.

Arrival
We recommend flying into Asturias Airport (OVD). From there, we provide a group transfer to León, where our journey begins.
If traveling internationally, many guests connect through Madrid (MAD) before continuing on to Asturias.

Departure
Our journey concludes in Santiago de Compostela. On departure day, we provide a group transfer from our hotel to Santiago Airport (SCQ).

Camino Francés (Sarria to Santiago)

The final 100 kilometers of the Camino Francés offer a meaningful introduction to pilgrimage while preserving the rich tradition, connection, and sense of accomplishment that make the Camino so special. Beginning in the lively Galician town of Sarria, this journey winds through forests, farmland, and centuries-old villages before culminating in Santiago de Compostela.

While shorter in distance, this route provides ample opportunity to settle into the rhythm of walking, connect with fellow pilgrims, and experience the simplicity that has drawn people to the Camino for centuries.

What makes the Camino Francés special:

  • The final 100 kilometers required to receive the Compostela
  • A welcoming pilgrim atmosphere and strong sense of community
  • Forest paths, stone villages, and rural Galician landscapes
  • Historic churches, local traditions, and regional cuisine
  • The meaningful arrival into Santiago de Compostela
  • The opportunity to experience the Camino at a thoughtful, accessible pace
  • A rich blend of history, culture, connection, and personal reflection

Walking rhythm:

This retreat includes 7 walking days, averaging approximately 16 km (10 miles) per day. Our thoughtfully paced itinerary allows time to enjoy the journey without rushing, creating space for reflection, conversation, and the simple pleasure of walking.

With luggage transfers included, you'll carry only what you need each day and remain present to the experience.

This Camino is ideal for first-time pilgrims, those with limited vacation time, or anyone seeking a shorter pilgrimage experience without sacrificing depth and meaning.

Led by Laura Sumner and Colleen O'Toole, this retreat brings together experienced Camino leadership with a mindful, person-centered approach. United by a shared belief in the transformative power of pilgrimage, Laura and Colleen create a welcoming space where guests are supported, encouraged, and free to experience the Camino in their own unique way.

Is the Camino Francés Right for You?

The Camino Francés is ideal for those seeking a meaningful walking journey that combines history, culture, community, and personal reflection. Whether you choose the longer pilgrimage from León or the final 100 kilometers from Sarria, you'll experience the unique rhythm that has drawn pilgrims to this path for centuries.

This journey may be a good fit if:

– You're looking for a fully supported Camino experience
– You enjoy walking and spending time outdoors day after day
– You value connection, reflection, and meaningful travel experiences
– You're curious about the traditions and history of the Camino de Santiago
– You appreciate the balance of structure, support, and personal freedom
– You're open to gentle yoga, mindfulness, and reflective practices (all optional)
– You enjoy traveling as part of a small, supportive group

This journey may not be the best fit if:

– You're looking for a fast-paced or mileage-focused challenge
– You prefer to travel completely independently without guides or group support
– You're seeking a budget-style Camino experience using public albergues
– You're uncomfortable sharing parts of the experience with a group
– Your primary goal is athletic achievement rather than the overall pilgrimage experience

Whether you're taking your first steps on the Camino or returning to a beloved path, the Camino Francés offers an opportunity to slow down, reconnect, and experience the journey one step at a time.
